They're Here - NIke Pro Combat 2010

Today, Nike released this year's installment of their Pro Combat Uniform Line, the ten teams selected were Alabama, Boise State, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon State, Pitt, TCU, Virgina Tech, and West Virginia. I'd have to say, for the most part these were very conservative compared to their '09 counterparts. Although schools like TCU continued their ways of uniform chaos. Below is a breakdown of each team's uniform and accessories along with their slogan.

Alabama - "Roll Tide" - These were pretty conservative jerseys compared to the panic that seemed to be in Tuscaloosa. People thought they could go over the top and ruin their tradition, after all, it is Nike. The jersey seemed pretty simple, a twist on their current one, adding hounds-tooth on the inside of the numbers. Everything else was pretty standard, slight piping on the pants, all black cleats sporting the 'A', as well as the gloves on each palm.

Boise State - "Bring the Hammer" - I'd have to say these were a step up from what they currently sport. Each shoulder covered by a huge logo of the bronco and the helmet continued the trend with an over-sided horse head on the side. The gray and blue do go well together and the blue cleats jump out. Just like the other cleats, they have the team logo on the inner panel and these gloves form the team logo when placed together.

Florida - "Pride" - I'd have to say that this is uniform is TCU's ugly cousin. I'll talk about the Horned Frogs later, but lets discuss these. First, I wish Nike would have made a set for a Florida home game compared to away. Imagine 90,000+ in The Swamp as the Gators rock some black uni's like the basketball team does, insane. They again chose to go with as much gator print as possible, well almost. There is print in the numbers, down the side of the pants, on the shoulders, on the helmet, on the gloves, and even the cleats. It was bit over the top but we can only hope they look better in person.

Miami - "The U" - I will be posting a more in-depth look at the Hurricane jerseys later, stay tuned.

Ohio State - "1942" - I've never really been a fan of Ohio State, but with an unbiased opinion I can say these  jerseys could have been done way better. The color scheme of Scarlet and Gray is hard to mess up, but you slap the old, feminine looking numbers on the chest of a uniform and you're bound for disaster. Other than the numbering though they are pretty plain and overall appealing. Simple, Scarlet jersey to go with the Gray pants looks great, just please change the numbers.

Oregon State - "Beaver Nation" - Again, a color scheme that is hard to mess up, yet they did. I understand that the weird, 3/4 sleeve striping is only an undershirt, so it is curable. I hope the players realize the undershirt doesn't work, and choose short sleeves, because other than (and the matching socks) it's a pretty sharp uniform. Bold, contrasting, and intimidating.

Pitt - "Let's Brawl" - These are nice uniforms, solid colors, kept the teams original ideas, and didn't go over the top. The font on the numbering is more futuristic, similar to what is being put in the new Michigan State uniforms, I still don't know how I feel about it. The panther print on the sleeves is pretty unnoticeable which isn't a bad thing. Though I'm not a fan of Pitt's colors, I would have to say these were done right.

TCU - " 'Til Hell Freezes Over" - The idea comes from an old coach and an old quote and I love how they push for the craziest ideas, they are like a better University of Oregon. They both go over the top, one just does it right. Some may say the skin print all over is too much, but last year they rocked similar unis and beat the hell out of Utah. This year they look to do the same and in similar fashion. The dark purple, black, and gray look great together and I think these are some of my favorites out of the bunch.

Virginia Tech - "UT Prosim" - I know being a Miami fan I am supposed to despise everything Va Tech but these are some solid uniforms. Some people may not understand, or think they are just following a trend by making black uniforms but there is a deeper meaning with theirs. It has ties to the cadets and old school tradition. Nike has taken this idea and mixed it with the now by adding circuitry designs to certain aspects of the uniform and I think it looks great. The black on orange definitely pops and this is up there as one of the best for this year.

West Virgina - "Leave No Doubt" - I know there are people saying there's no team colors on this and its boring but it has to do with the tragedy that happened in the coal mines where some many people were lost. The single line on the helmet represents the light from the miner's helmet and the dark colors and print symbolize the work they put in. Though I don't find these jerseys as cool as some of the others, I understand the idea of them and what they stand for, which makes them special in their own way.
